Nitrous Oxide - Laughing Gas
Nitrous Oxide commonly called "Laughing Gas" is something that we offer for our patients who are a bit apprehensive about dental treatment. Nitrous Oxide is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and breathed in and out through a mask that is placed over your nose. Once it is placed on we will ask that you breathe in and out through your nose and in a few minutes you should start to feel the nitrous oxide. It might cause you to feel light-headed or tingling in your arms and legs. The purpose of nitrous oxide is to help you relax and make your experience in the chair more calming. We do not use it to put you to sleep. We will ask that you are able to respond to us throughout the procedure. Some of the side effects can be dizziness or nausea, so be sure to let the doctor know if you are experiencing these symptoms and she can adjust the nitrous oxide or take it off. Be sure to talk with Dr. Xu-Wong to see if nitrous oxide is a good option for you.
